Paint fumes can be harmful for around 48 hours, especially with continued exposure and no fresh air or ventilation. This is because a newly painted room can have high levels of VOC in the air for a couple of days after a fresh coat of paint.
This is especially true for pregnant women, but it is important for anyone to make sure to limit exposure, get fresh air and wait at least 2 days before using the room as normal. Open windows and turn on fans to help air out the fumes from the room.
You can also use low VOC or no VOC paints to reduce the harmfulness of the paint fumes, though ventilation is still important and you should still be cautious about spending time in the room too soon after painting.
